The Battle for Australia: How a Nation Defended Its Shores in WWII

On the first Wednesday of September each year, commemorations are held to recognise close-to-home events of World War II, collectively named the ‘Battle for Australia’. This relatively new day of commemoration was established in 2008 for what previously had been a largely under-recognised part of the global conflict that was the Second World War.
Remembering The Vietnam War

While Australia’s last remaining ANZAC diggers have long since passed, there are still thousands of veterans living with the impacts of the Vietnam conflict. According to statistics from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs on conditions affecting Vietnam war veterans, there are currently more than 47,000 veterans receiving treatment for over 200,000 different conditions resulting from their service in Vietnam.
Community housing: a lifeline for veterans

With the state of the economy, the cost of living, and Australia’s housing crisis constantly in the news, the parts of the population that were already vulnerable - the homeless and those on the verge of it - are understandably anxious.
Celebrating and honouring Defence Force Reserves

Throughout Australia’s military history, over 1.25 million people have served in the ADF Reserves (Army, Navy, Air Force). This collective name includes all of the ADF’s reserve units and refers to those who serve proudly alongside full-time defence force personnel when additional man (and woman) power is needed.

Financial hardship

In times of financial hardship, we can provide immediate relief. From paying household bills, to arranging housing, booking and paying for household repairs; coordinating donations of clothing, furniture, appliances and electrical equipment to covering rehabilitation, medical and travel expenses; or covering funeral expenses.

With yet another Father’s Day upon us, many of us will celebrate our fathers or mourn the ones we do not. A father-type figure, however, is just one persona we look up to, and as we look back throughout history, we see the value that significant male role models of all kinds have played in the shaping of humanity and who we are as people.

Fundraising is not only vital for the strength and longevity of Carry On (Victoria)’s work, it also provides a great opportunity for volunteers and supporters to be practically involved in things that help support our Ex-Servicemen and Women and their families. Plus, many of the fundraising efforts are fun social events to be involved in!
