For over 90 years, compassionate and caring Australians like you, have transformed the lives of Veterans and their families with one of the most generous acts - leaving a gift in their Will to Carry On. These generous gifts have helped Carry On provide essential long-term accommodation, welfare, financial and crisis support to Veterans doing it tough. A gift in your Will can show how much you care for those who have sacrificed so much by serving our country. As your Will is a very important document it should be prepared by a solicitor or trustee company to ensure it is legally valid and properly reflects your intentions. There are many different types of gifts you can make in your Will to ensure that your loved ones are provided for and that you can support Veterans and their families after you are gone. Here are some examples of the ways you can support Veterans through your Will: A Residual Gift A residual gift is often the best option if you have a family to provide for as it ensures your relatives and friends are looked after first. Leaving a residual gift means that after your Will has made all necessary provision for relatives, friends and debtors, the residue of your estate (remaining assets) are passed to the organisation and/or individuals named as your residuary beneficiaries. Your residual gift can also be left as a specific percentage of the residue of your estate. A Percentage Gift Leaving a specific percentage of your estate assures that inflation will not reduce the value of the gift you intended for Carry On. A Specific Gift You can gift specific items of property (such as jewellery, shares, artwork or real estate) in your Will provided that we are given permission to sell the item/s to raise cash funds. Carry On can also be the sole beneficiary of a life insurance policy. A Cash Gift You can gift a specific sum of money to Carry On in your Will. Please note that this option is susceptible to value reduction due to inflation over the years so it will need to be reviewed regularly The following suggested wording for leaving a gift in your Will to Carry On is provided for the guidance of your solicitor or trustee. Suggested wording for your Will:‘I (insert name here) bequeath to Carry On ABN 67 004 508 936 for its general purposes (or name a specific purpose, such as accommodation, welfare, financial or crisis support, future needs), [Choose and insert the appropriate statement from the list below]1. the whole of my estate2. (insert number) percentage of my estate3. the residue of my estate4. the amount of $ (insert the value of your gift in cash)5. my (insert name of asset) free of all duties, and the receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer forthe time being shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the Executor(s).’ Words in italics to be adjusted in accordance with the testator’s wishes.
